Backstage before his match with Elijah Cage, Dave is sitting at his locker with his forehead in his hands. Something is obviously wrong, and it's obviously more than just nerves before the big event. He runs his fingers through his hair, sits up, and breathes deeply. He stands up, and goes toward a punching bag in the corner, but before he gets there, someone calls his name.
"Hey, Dave..."
Dave turns around ready to fight, thinking it might be Rich, but instead he sees Elijah Cage standing in the doorway, looking depressed, yet smiling.
Elijah: Hey dude... I needed to talk with you, about something really important actually. I know we're about to go out there and rip each other apart, but I need you to hear me out right now.
Dave: Sure dude, what's up?
Elijah: As you saw at the press conference...Something is up. Something major. It's really going to affect my life no matter where I go from here, and I've made my choice now. I can't explain everything right now, but just know, for me, family comes first...even if they didn't before...they do now.
Dave: I hope things work out for ya man, even if I don't know the whole deal. I won't take it easy on you in the ring though, I know somethings wrong, and I feel for you, but remember, this is my dream too...
Elijah: Heheh...it's funny. Realizing your dream is so close, and I know this is cliche, but so far away. Especially for me. I commend you, David Hilt. You deserve what's coming to you.
Elijah extends his hand, and Dave reluctantly takes it, thinking Elijah's words to meant to be insulting. They shake, but Elijah pulls David in close, and mumbles something that can't really be heard, but the words mom, funeral, and need money can possibly be made out.
Elijah: What you don't deserve though, is Rich putting you through all this shit. (Cage pulls out a white envelope from his pocket) I know you don't approve of him doing this, and I'm sorry you can't put him in check. I wish you good luck, though... Do what I couldn't....
Elijah sniffles, and wipes his arm across his nose. He looks at the envelope before placing it down on the nearby bench. But he continues to eye it, although he eventually looks up. He pats Dave on his arm and turns around to leave. As he gets to the door, he bumps into Kyle Wilton, who seems very excited to see him.
Kyle: Oh wow. I came here to interview Dave, but now I can get both of you! Why exactly are you two meeting before the match anyway?
Elijah: Just uh...smoothing over the ground between us. I have to go though, Dave can't be the only one warming up. Sorry, we'll have to do this another time.
Kyle: Wait!
His scream does nothing though, as Elijah rushes past him. Kyle looks puzzled, but just walks over to Dave for the interview.
Kyle: What was that about?
Dave: Like the dude said, he had to warm up.
Kyle: Well, what was he for in the first place.
Dave: Wishing us both good luck.
Kyle: ...K. So speaking of Elijah, how are you feeling about your match tonight?
Dave: I don't know. I...I don't know. There's too many factors to consider. But Elijah...He's a great dude. I think he deserves more than what is plaguing him now, but I have confidence in him, that he will one day work toward his dream again, and achieve what no one ever thought he could.
Kyle: You make it sound as if he's leaving GCW, haha.
Dave: ...? Hah! Heheh, you're right. I guess I'm in a dramatic mood tonight...yeah.
Kyle: I guess so. Now, what everyone wants to know...well, everything! We need you to spill it all about what's been happening this past month. Rich, Milan, Cage, etcetera. Come on man, this is epic, you have to share with us.
Dave: ...You know what Kyle, I think we're done.
Kyle: What? Hardly!
Dave: No, we are. I don't need this shit. Rich keeps fucking with me, and seems to be sadistically enjoying it. Milan possibly got screwed over by him as well, and now it's obviously had some negative effect on his mind. And now I am standing in Elijah Cage's way of achieving his most desired goal before he has....Ugh, I just don't need this, I don't need any of this shit. I don't need Rich to pay off my opponents. I don't need to be causing rifts in peoples' very lives because of all this, and I don't need to be champion if it's going to fuck with me like this! ...I don't need any of this...
Dave lowers his head, circling through his emotions. But he notices...the envelope is no longer on the bench. He gives a quick laugh, and shakes his head. He looks up at Kyle, and forces him out of the room. He goes back to sitting on the bench, forehead in his hands.
